Kampala, Uganda – Jamaican reggae and gospel icon Papa San has officially announced his return to Uganda, confirming a major concert in Kampala as part of his upcoming "Africa Freedom Tour."

The dancehall legend took to his personal Facebook page to share the news with fans, posting a promotional flyer that reveals the tour will make a stop in Kampala on May 14, 2027. The announcement, which included the caption "AFRICA! We heard you," has already begun generating excitement among his Ugandan fanbase, with the artist urging followers to "#Savethedate" and make it "breaking news."

Papa San, born Tyrone Thompson in Kingston, Jamaica, is no stranger to Ugandan audiences. The artist, who began his career in the late 1970s and rose to prominence as one of dancehall's major figures in the 1980s and 1990s, has a long and storied history with the country. He has performed in Kampala multiple times, drawing massive crowds. In 2006, he performed in front of an astounding 45,000 people at Makerere University, and returned in 2009 for another well-attended show.

More recently, he headlined the Love Kampala Festival at Kololo Airstrip, where he performed alongside American gospel singer Nicole C. Mullen. His performances are known for their high energy; the "fast-tongued Jamaican" is renowned for igniting crowds with his Caribbean dancehall rhythms.

Since turning to Christianity in 1997, Papa San has continued to produce roots reggae with a gospel message. Now an ordained pastor based in Weston, Florida, he maintains his authentic dancehall and reggae approach to his music.
