MAYA, WAKISO – In a profoundly symbolic and emotionally charged ceremony, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, the revered General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), officially anointed his spiritual daughter, Pastor Patience Kokundeka Museveni Rwabwogo, consecrating her into the office and authority of Episcopal Bishop. In a powerful display of spiritual fatherhood, Adeboye not only anointed her with oil but also bestowed upon her the pastoral staff and the episcopal ring—emblems of divine authority, covenant, and spiritual oversight.
The historic consecration took place on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at Covenant Nations Church's Covenant Hill in Maya, drawing thousands of worshippers, senior clergy, and dignitaries to witness the landmark event, which also marked the church's 20th anniversary.
The Anointing: A Father's Impartation
Described by Rwabwogo as her spiritual father, Pastor Adeboye played a central and personal role in the ceremony. After years of mentorship and spiritual covering, the Nigerian Pentecostal leader publicly stepped forward to consecrate his daughter into her new office. He led the solemn anointing, pouring oil upon her head as a sign of divine consecration, setting her apart for the sacred work of episcopal governance.
The Staff: A Symbol of Shepherding Authority
During the ceremony, Pastor Adeboye presented Bishop Rwabwogo with a pastoral staff (crozier) , placing it firmly in her hands as a symbol of the shepherding authority now entrusted to her. The staff, traditionally carried by bishops, represents the Good Shepherd's rod and staff—a sign of guidance, protection, and the responsibility to lead God's flock with wisdom and care.
The Ring: A Covenant
of Authority and Promise In
an equally significant moment, the General Overseer took an episcopal ring and
placed it upon her finger. In Christian tradition, the ring given to a bishop
is a symbol of covenant, spiritual authority, and fidelity to the Church. It
signifies a solemn marriage to the office and a binding covenant with God to
serve His people faithfully.
By placing the ring on her finger as her spiritual father,
Adeboye sealed the consecration, publicly affirming her calling and covering her
with his spiritual authority.
A Historic Milestone for Uganda
The consecration was officially led by Bishop Dr. LaDonna C. Osborn
as the Chief Consecrator, with Archbishop Moses Odongo and Bishop Joshua Lwere
serving as co-consecrators. Presenting Rwabwogo to the congregation, Mrs. Allen
Kagina described her journey as one shaped by two decades of ministry, service,
and unwavering commitment.
"Twenty years ago, God planted within her heart a
vision that began humbly as a small house fellowship. What appeared small in
the eyes of men carried within it the seed of a much greater work," Kagina
told the congregation.
The ceremony marked a monumental chapter in Uganda's Christian history as Patience Rwabwogo became the first woman to be ordained as a bishop in the country.
Presidential Recognition
President Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni, who had earlier hosted Pastor Adeboye at State House Entebbe, attended the consecration. President Museveni expressed his gratitude, describing the occasion as significant for the family and the historical journey of Christianity in Uganda.
A Divine Visitation
Speaking earlier upon his arrival in Uganda on August 19,
Pastor Adeboye—on his fourth visit to the nation—had declared that God would
bless the country. His presence, from the State House meeting to the ministers'
conference and now this historic consecration, has been described by Ugandan
Christians as a divine visitation.
As Bishop Patience Rwabwogo now steps fully into her office,
carrying the staff of shepherding and the ring of covenant given by her
spiritual father, the body of Christ in Uganda celebrates a new era of
apostolic and episcopal leadership.
